This will be Robert’s second time presenting at the Images Studio Tour. Robert is an artist who works primarily in acrylics on board. With his paintings he seeks to explore themes of individuality, isolation and obsolescence. This year, he is incorporating more fantasy-based themes in his work. His love of the outdoors and interest in the vanishing lifestyles of rural Ontario still continue to constitute a large part of his paintings. Derelict buildings, forgotten communities, abandoned barns and antiques all feed his imagination and regularly appear in his pieces. Although the subject matter varies widely, the interplay of light and shadow and an unswerving attention to detail remain constant in his pieces. It is no coincidence that Robert’s paintings tend to be full, yet sparse enough to allow and even encourage interpretation and participation. Robert was born in Grimsby, Ontario and presently creates and resides in Barrie. During the warmer months, he and his family relocate to Musky Island on the West Arm of Lake Nipissing where he continues working in his humble studio. The surrounding forests and wildlife contribute to the atmosphere that helps him produce the type of artwork with which he wishes to be associated. The endless inspiration of this locale accordingly makes up a large part of the subject matter of his paintings. Robert’s artwork can be found in private collections around the world.
