Artist’s Statement ~ Biography:
Alisa Auger has always been artistically inclined, studying dance, art and music throughout her life. Music being her main focus, she earned both a degree in piano performance from Wilfrid Laurier University and an ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Alisa is a piano teacher, vocal accompanist and has played French horn for the Huronia Symphony in Barrie. She started her business Beadbrain in 2005 and enjoys creating beautiful pieces to wear.
Process:
Each bead is individually hand-made by the artist using a process called lampworking. Lampworking is a type of glasswork using a gas-fueled torch to melt clear and coloured glass rods. Once in a molten state, the glass is dropped onto a metal mandrel and is shaped using a variety of tools and hand movements. The beads are then annealed in a kiln for many hours to make them durable. Lampworking is also known as flameworking or torchworking. Although this art form has been practiced since ancient times, it became widely practiced in Murano, Italy in the 14th century. All Beadbrain jewelry is made using sterling silver findings and chains. |
